Literacy Work Across Curriculum and Grades

Literacy is the foundation of active and responsible citizenship within a school community. It empowers students to think critically, communicate effectively, and engage meaningfully with others, enabling them to understand diverse perspectives and participate in shared decision-making. Our Literacy Lead Teacher has been working with science teachers and modern languages teachers to implement literacy strategies in these courses. In addition to targeted lessons for literacy skills across subject areas, an action we have taken to support our school’s learning focus is collaborating with senior students in Grade 12 to be role models for our Grade 8 students. Selected Grade 12 students have attended Grade 8 Humanities classes to speak with our youngest learners about ways organization is a key to success: keeping notes in a binder and using an agenda. The senior grade engaged with the junior grade to model responsible citizenship and effective learning strategies.

We continue to build community with an emphasis on citizenship We continue to highlight the importance of literacy within citizenship and the value of literacy within community.
