May 5, 2025 Daily Announcement

BREAKERS DAILY NEWS

  1. Happy Mental Health Week! We hope you all had a gentle weekend. To bring awareness to Mental Health Week, the counselling team will be sharing one resource/strategy each day. Today’s strategy is the 5 senses grounding technique. Please see the poster or school Instagram account for the steps. This strategy is to help ground you when you are having a panic or anxiety attack. You can also use it when you feel overwhelmed or stressed. The purpose of this technique is to bring you back to the present. Please let your counsellor know if you have any questions.
  2. Attention Grade 8s and 9s! Jump Rope for Heart is on until May 9—help raise funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Register, fundraise, and earn prizes, then join the fun on Conference Day for an active heart health event!
  3. Music Monday is today! Come enjoy a concert featuring various Burnett music programs, along with special guests from Cook Elementary. Entry is free. The concert starts at 6:30 p.m. in the large gym. There will be a concession on site as well as a silent auction — so bring your cash! We hope many of you can attend to support your friends in music.
  4. Hey Science Students! Do you want to learn more about what STEM is like in post-secondary? The science club is hosting a Burnett alumni panel with students from UBC, University of Toronto, and Waterloo to discuss and answer all your questions about planning for post-secondary education. Come by tomorrow, May 6 during lunch at the library!
  5. All Track and field volunteers, please go and see Mr. Harrison today at lunch in room B104.
  6. Hey Breakers! Think you’ve got what it takes to win our Pie Eating Contest this Wednesday? Grab a partner and sign up using the link in our bio on Instagram @ Hogwarts Express! One of you will feed, the other will eat — and the first team to finish wins it all! The contest will be held in the cafeteria, and the winning duo will walk away with a $20 Hogwarts Express gift card plus a special gift basket filled with snacks and drinks!
  7. Are you 14 or older and curious about careers in manufacturing, trades, or transportation?
Join the Pouring Potential – JA Job Shadow Experience at Coke Canada Bottling in Richmond on May 30! You will tour the plant, meet industry pros, and get hands‑on career insight. If you are interested, please see your counsellor by May 9. There are only 10 spots available!
