Valedictory Speaker Nominations

Grads and Staff

 

Please consider carefully who you would like to represent the JNB Grad Class of 2023 at the Valedictory Ceremony.  We, traditionally, have three speakers – Class Valedictorian, Class Poet and Class Historian.

 

Grads and Teachers are asked to nominate worthy candidates for consideration by the Valedictory Committee. 

 

We will collate the nominations and reach out to the candidates via email and invite them to present to the Valedictory Committee.  After all presentations have been concuted the committee will notify the successful candidate(s).

 

  •  

CRITERIA FOR VALEDICTORIAN 

  • strong and genuine leadership qualities 
  • positive role model 
  • self-motivated and high achiever 
  • respected by peers and teachers 
  • contributes to school and/or community 
  • capable and effective public speaking skills 
  • strong presence 

 

CRITERIA FOR HISTORIAN 

  • In addition to the above criteria, the historian should be able to do the following: 
  • be able to tell the history of the graduating class from grade 8 to 12 
  • recall and include important political and historical events from around the world, particularly Canada, as well as recall fun social activities and memorable events that the grad class has participated in over the last 5 years 

 

CRITERIA FOR POET 

  • In addition to the criteria listed for Valedictorian, the poet should be able to do the following: 
  • create and perform a spoken word poem (to be presented at the valedictory ceremony) that reflects on the past 5 years of high school (memories, events, friendships, experiences) and looks forward to the future ahead
