Emergency Preparedness Drills

Parents of Burnett Secondary School

On October 15th and 16th, our school will be practicing an Earthquake Drill and Fire Drill. Both of these drills require students and staff to evacuate the building. Students MUST wear their masks when doing so.

These practice drills will occur during class time, rain or shine. Please ensure your child comes to school prepared in case it is a rainy day.

Earthquake Drill – October 15

Burnett will be joining with thousands of other British Columbians and millions of people world -wide as we practice what to do in the event of an earth quake by participating in the Great BC ShakeOut. Excellent resources can be found here to help you protect yourselves in a number of environments, including your home.

“Drop-Cover-Hold-On” can be practiced while students maintain their physical distance.

Evacuating the school, to complete the drill, will require students to wear their masks as they leave the building in an orderly fashion. Physical distancing will be unlikely to be maintained during the evacuation. As students leave the building and move towards the muster point, physical distancing can again be achieved, although masks should still be worn. Physical contact is to be avoided.

Fire Drill – October 16

As with the earthquake drill, evacuating the school will require students to wear their masks as they leave the building. Physical distancing will be unlikely to be maintained during the evacuation. As students leave the building and move towards the muster point, physical distancing can again be achieved, although masks should still be worn. Physical contact is to be avoided.

We thank parents for supporting our school in carrying out these important safety drills.
