PRESENTERS

Get-REAL (Grade 8 and Grade 9): a presentation that, “Strives to utilize the power of personal stories to provide youth and adults with a powerful and resonating education on the impact of language surrounding LGBTQ+ discrimination and understanding that everyone has a voice to be heard and a story to tell. Get REAL is driven by the values of kindness, positivity, honesty, and acceptance, and aims to portray and instill those in all its endeavors. “

SOLOS (Grade 8): SafeOnline Internet Safety is a presentation that promotes positive online citizenship as well as assisting students with making more safe choices when using various forms of technology (gaming/social media).

CHIMO (Grade 9): Facilitators will be conducting one of two workshops with classes

SEXUAL HEALTH (Grade 10): Amy Patterson is hired by the BCTF to offer presentations on Sexual Health. Specifically, her presentation will cover consent, it will introduce students to reliable resources, and address basic health concern about anatomy, puberty, and safer sex practices. It will also touch on healthy decision-making.

END GANG LIFE (Grade 10): A presentation offered through the RCMP that is an anti-gang initiative that highlights the realities for what gang life is really like, with the hopes of preventing youth from entering gangs.

APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS (Grade 10): Terri Lockhart (District Coordinator- Career Programs) will be providing information on all of the apprenticeship programs offered to grade 11 and 12 students in the Richmond School District.

TARA BOSCH (Grade 11 and Grade 12): Ms. Bosch is the Founder and CEO of the company, SmartSweet. , Her products are already on more than 700 store shelves in North America, Including Whole Foods, Popeyes, and Bed Bath and Beyond. She was recently named one of the 30 under 30, by BC Business Magazine. She will discuss her journey with starting a new company and talk about setting and accomplishing goals.

HEATHER CHARLTON (Grade 11): Ms. Charlton is an ICBC presenter who will address road safety measures by telling her story of being an impaired teen-aged driver who was in a horrible car accident.

BC UNIVERSITY RECRUITERS (Grade 11 and Grade 10 International Students): Recruiters from UBC, Capilano University, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, and Langara College will have 15 minutes each to give an overview of their respective post-secondary institutions.
COUNSELORS: Students will be in Program Planning sessions with their respective counselors. Program Planning involves choosing and picking courses that students will be enrolled in at Burnett Secondary next year.
